About Tamaco

Tamaco is built on a foundation of developing and distributing better food products. Our mission is to bring more high-quality food to supermarket shelves and onto the tables of restaurants and canteens.

Together with skilled and dedicated farmers, producers, and visionary customers, we continuously work on developing new and exciting food concepts, with a strong focus on organic production, animal welfare, biodiversity, quality, and food safety.

To ensure the highest standards, we set strict requirements for our suppliers, partners, and ourselves. The products we bring to market must be more than just food.

For Tamaco, organic production is not a trend - it is part of our DNA and has been a driving force behind our work for decades. We believe that collective well-being begins with thoughtfulness. That is why we are committed to delivering food of the highest standard, where animal welfare and quality go hand in hand.

We work closely with some of the country’s best producers to ensure that our customers receive the purest and most flavorful food. For Tamaco, organic production is not just about the absence of pesticides—it is equally about ensuring the well-being of animals.

Some of our successful concepts include Poppelgris, REMA1000’s Frilandsgris, Dark Red, Naturkvæg, Thise&Ko, and Bertels Gris.

Tamacos story

Tamaco has a long history as a meat company. Since its founding in 1964, the focus has always been on quality and craftsmanship. Over the years, with changes in ownership and new visions, the company has evolved, but Tamaco’s proud traditions in meat trading continue to thrive.

Today, Tamaco stands as an experienced trading company with strong traditions and the ambition to contribute to our shared future by rethinking and developing food trade with thoughtfulness and care.

A Lifelong Commitment to Organic Production

Tamaco is not just another player in the organic market - we have been a part of the development from the very beginning.

Our CEO, Karsten Deibjerg Kristensen, has played a pivotal role in the development of Denmark’s organic meat industry since the 1990s. As one of the first to organize and commercialize organic meat, he helped shape an entire industry and ensured that organic food became widely available to consumers across the country.

At just 23 years old, Karsten became the director of Denmark’s first dedicated sales company for organic meat. Three years later, he co-founded Friland Food - a collaboration between organic and free-range pig producers, which he led for two decades, even after the company was sold to Danish Crown in 2000.

His work in the organic sector led to a close partnership with Dyrenes Beskyttelse (Animal Protection Denmark), where Karsten helped develop solutions that combined high animal welfare standards with economically sustainable production.

Despite many challenges, he successfully built partnerships between organic producers and conventional players, which has been crucial to the industry's growth.

With Tamaco, this vision has been carried forward. Since joining the company in 2013, Karsten has shaped it with his ambition to deliver organic meat—thoughtfully and at the highest quality—to as many consumers as possible across Europe.

A decade later, Tamaco remains a strong advocate for better conditions for livestock, collaborating with producers to develop concepts that align with the company’s core values.

When you choose Tamaco, you choose a company that genuinely cares about organic food, animal welfare, and quality. Every day, we work towards creating a healthier food culture with respect for people, nature, animals, and the environment.
